A Change To The Skin Care Routine

I've shaken things up a little bit in the skin care department; I've been loving my stripped back routine but when my precleanse facial oil run out, I decided to mix things up. I reintroduced a few oldies (but goodies) and have been trialing a couple of new products.

Catastrophe Cosmetic never fails to restore my complexion after it's been feeling clogged and congested. I apply this thick mask packed with blueberries, calamine and chamomile, rose, and almond oils, leaving it on for a good fifteen minutes. While the mask thickens and sets, it doesn't pull or crack and afterwards my skin feels soothed and restored.

I don't use micellar water for much other than removing stubborn make-up residue or for a super fast and effective way of removing a full face of make-up immediately, for days when I'm too tired and just want to crawl into bed. So while I find it useful, I'm not overly fussed on what brand I pick up; the Boots Botanics All Bright Micellar 3-in-1 Cleansing Solution wins bonus points, however, for being alcohol, soap, and fragrance free. I find it to be gentle on the skin and non-drying.

9 to 5 is a super cleanser, it's a total favourite of mine and each time I pick it back up, I wonder why I ever stopped using it. This milky cleanser is gentle on the skin; I sweep it over my face after cleansing with coconut oil and it leaves my complexion feeling soothed, softened, and hydrated.

It's been almost a year since I last used the Vichy Idealia Life Serum, which claims to repair damage caused through environmental pollution, overexposure to the sun, cigarette smoke, or an unbalanced diet. I've previously found this "repair serum" to boost my complexion, making it appear less drawn with a plumper, brighter appearance. I'm hoping to experience the same again; while I wouldn't say it's an absolute must-have skin care product, I do enjoy using it as part of my routine.

Paired with this I've been testing the Vichy Idealia Eyes. I'm not sold on eye creams, I mostly think they are pointless unless you have a specific condition that needs treating such as dryness or sensitivity. So I've been curious to see whether using Vichy Idealia Eyes would provide me with any benefit.. again, for me it's one of those unnecessary but nevertheless enjoyable treatments. The cool cream applied to the eye area is refreshing and soothing, helping me to feel that little bit more awake after my morning skin care routine.

  3. 9 to 5 sounds like a dream, yet I never really get on with the cleansers from Lush. I just did a huge haul on my blog so I won't go to Lush anytime soon, but I might pick this up in a few weeks!

  4. I'm a lazy beauty user, I love products, but fortunately my skin survives and forgives the fact I use baby wipes and a cheap moisturiser, and currently bepanthen on my lips, for the most part ... But I'm trying recently to put more effort in. I'm using an eye cream and I'm feeling quite determined to make this the year I start consistently removing my make up!! ... But I'm a bit unconvinced... Is it really essential for a different cream?

  5. I am so lazy when it comes to beauty, I only use the bare essentials, take them off in the evenings and apply a cream or something. 9 to 5 does sound really good. Maybe I'll give that one a try.

  8. These products sound nice. I haven't tried anything from Lush in years. I think micellar water is more of a European thing. My husband went to Paris recently and brought back a sample pack by NUXE that had rose micellar water in it. I tried it and liked it, but I don't think I could use it for everyday cleansing. I'm saving it to remove small mistakes and traces of makeup.

  9. The LUSH mask is going onto my little list of things to try from LUSH. I'm beginning to think that I'm slowly working my way through the whole shop.

  11. I swear by the LUSH face masks, they are super gentle. I'd recommend Oatifix if you haven't tried any before and you're scared of upsetting your skin. It's really mild and gentle; it's great for soothing the skin rather than drawing out impurities like the Catastrophe Cosmetic.

  12. There is a lot I don't like about LUSH.. the garishly bright bath bombs and sweet scents, even the soap, isn't appealing to me.. but the face masks and 9 to 5 cleanser? AMAZING.

  13. Love the Vichy cream, it's great for when my skin is stressing and I need to calm it down.

  14. I'm the same; I like to keep a bottle of it handy for when I make mistakes, when I want to get my make-up off SUPER fast, or just used for a quick final sweep to make sure every bit of make-up is removed. I wouldn't ever use it every day. I use coconut oil for removing my make-up and it's great.

  17. I keep my skin care routine pretty minimal, to be honest. I tend to stick with what works and although I might switch products up, I make sure they are very similar. I rarely make any drastic changes, I simply substitute products for near identical ones from another brand.

The 9 to 5 cleanser is amazing, it works out better value for money than the Natio one although it does contain fragrance (I believe), which the Natio one doesn't. Either way they're both fantastic.

  18. Oooh, baby wipes and moisturiser..? Eep! ;))

Personally I think eye creams are pointless unless you have a specific issue you need to deal with around your eyes, such as dry skin, sensitivity, etc. If your eyes don't have any issues, then using your face moisturiser is fine. A lot of people will try to convince you to buy a separate cream but it's totally unnecessary. My skin is "normal" and I use my moisturiser all over my face without any issues at all.

  19. I'm not keen on any of their other cleansers, but the 9 to 5 cleanser works really well after using coconut oil to budge most of the make-up. I always double cleanse to make sure everything is off properly; 9 to 5 on it's own wouldn't take all your make-up off unless you used A LOT of it, which would be a waste, but if you pre cleanse it's great.

Just stumbled across your blog and I am in love. You take such beautiful photos and I really enjoy your writing, too! I think I'll add that LUSH mask to my 'to-buy' list, I've heard great things about it, and I love that those masks are fresh. The Vichy serum is really nice; I agree that it's not a necessity in a skincare routine but it's gives a lovely boost of hydration! Same with the eye cream (I am currently trialling both too).

Just wondering, can you recommend a good day moisturiser? I'm really unsure about what's good and what isn't, and I'd quite like to invest in a nice moisturiser! Thanks!

I use a Natio Moisturiser, which I adore!
I wrote about it here: http://www.theprivatelifeofagirl.com/2014/04/aperfectpair.html

    I hope that helps!
