Networking: Twitter Chats For Bloggers & Creatives
8.1.15
Networking online using Twitter provides the chance to engage with other creatives and gain exposure for your work through shared interests. Twitter chats are where users meet at certain times on particular days to discuss specific topics using designated hashtags. A host might pose questions to encourage engagement and interaction between participants or the discussion may be left open.
Online chats are one of the best ways I have found to engage with other designer-makers and bloggers, and to expose creative work to new audiences. Look out for chats specific to your local region (for instance, #brumhour for Birmingham.)
Twitter Networking Tips:
- set alarms to remind you of chat times
- use Tweetdeck or HootSuite for easier participation
- get involved; be polite and positive
- dip in and out of conversations
- you don't have to tweet for the entire hour or answer all questions
- nor do you have to attend the same chats every week
- always include the chat-specific hashtag
- include a "." before any relevant @ correspondence
- schedule tweets if you can't "be there"
- avoid being overly promotional or pushy
- favourite, retweet, and respond to contributing tweets
- follow-up afterwards

I didn't know about scheduled twitter chats and am looking forward to participating in the future! I was wondering though, what time zone are the given times in?
ReplyDeleteYay!! Thank you! I was just working in my day designer and I thought "I need to look up the twitter chats so that I can write them in here." Success!

I was wondering that too but she lives in Birmingham and the bbloggers one is at 8pm UK time so unless she says otherwise I'd say they're all UK time :)

This is such a useful post! I never really explored this kind of networking, other than simply tweeting that I had a new post up, so I can't wait to get involved!

Thanks for sharing those. I've been looking for ways to make Twitter more attractive... For some reason, I just can't really engage in it.
ReplyDeleteThat list of chats is really helpful! Thank you.

I love twitter chats! I have met so many great bloggers and made some wonderful friends from participating in them :) I really agree on your tip about not being too promotional. I notice some people just come in and throw their link out and then disappear and come back towards the end just to share their link again. That one just personally annoys me. But anyways, thanks for the chart! My favorite from the bunch is definitely #bdib :)

OMG Thank you for the schedule. I honestly love to participate in these chats, the only thing is that I am currently in China and these chats start usually around 3 AM Bejing Time :( I sometimes just don't have the energy to stay up..

Ugh, that's so annoying. You could schedule tweets for those times? Or maybe set up a twitter chat of your own for your time zone? :))
ReplyDeleteI love them. I know a lot of people see them as just a way to plug their blog, but I think it's a nice way of getting to know people and to interact with fellow bloggers/creatives :))
ReplyDeleteNo problem
ReplyDeleteI love the creative chats but all of them are worth checking out, they all cover different topics :))
ReplyDeleteThey can be a lot of fun, I would recommend it :))
ReplyDeleteNo problem
ReplyDeleteThanks
ReplyDeleteTwitter is my absolute favourite social media but I know it doesn't work for a lot of people. I think it's worth persevering though because it drives a lot of traffic to both my blog and shop :))
ReplyDeleteThat's a good one too :))
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading :))
ReplyDeleteNo problem
ReplyDeleteUgh, I remember. Some people have such bad attitudes; I'm hoping it was just one of those things were people were in a bad mood that day.. I don't like to think people are genuinely that mean for no reason.
ReplyDeleteSome of the other chats are awesome though, the #altchat can be awesome - their talks are usually pretty good subjects.
Sometimes some social media platforms aren't for some people. I absolutely love Twitter but don't ever use Facebook, you've got to work with what suits you best :))
ReplyDeleteTwitter chats are really useful and I definitely think without them I wouldn't have gotten the word out about my blog quite so quickly :))
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely worth trying, I absolutely love Twitter :))
ReplyDeleteNo problem - I hope you join in some of the chats :))
ReplyDeleteTwitter chats can be awesome :))
ReplyDeleteNo problem - I hope you found some chats you would join in with :))
ReplyDeleteThat's good to hear - I hope to see you in some of them in the future :))
ReplyDeleteAwesome
ReplyDeleteThat's just the way with some social medias. I hate Facebook and haven't ever really used it. I ditched my personal profile a few years back and although the business has a page, I never use it because they just want £££
ReplyDeleteTwitter, on the other hand, works so well for my business and my blog. I love interacting with people.
I wish you all the best with your new blog !:))
ReplyDeleteNo worries, I hope it helped :))
ReplyDeleteI hope it helped :))
ReplyDeleteNo problem - I hope to see you in some of the chats in future.
ReplyDeleteAwesome - I hope this post helped! :)) I schedule them all in on my digital planner and get a little notification when the chat is on. It's really useful :))
ReplyDeleteOops, sorry, I should have written that in. All the times are in GMT and I've put a link to a time converter to help people out :))
ReplyDeleteGlad you found it useful - it's really worth dropping into some of the chats :))
ReplyDeleteOh, I couldn't agree more. I do like Twitter, more than FB. Just could never truly get into it. There's too much irrelevant info on FB, different from Twitter.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite would be G+, but it's not that popular compared to the other two, so the content is not that great yet -nor is interaction.
thanks :)
ReplyDeleteVery handy post! I've been loving Twitter chats (even though they are a bit of a pain to follow sometimes, too much spam!) and it's handy to have a list like that. I've set some alerts on my calendar now. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for listing all these blogger chats in one place! This post will be really helpful, I'm definitely saving it for later!

This is by far the best list I've found! I had no idea there were chats for creatives too. I'm not practicing design at the moment but would definitely love to check out those chats.
