The Iron Bridge of Ironbridge

Opened in 1781, The Iron Bridge was built to cross the River Severn in Shropshire, England and was the first major bridge to be made entirely from cast iron but constructed as if it were wood. It's an architectural oddity celebrated after its construction because of its use of the new material.

The Iron Bridge is in Ironbridge, a sleepy little village at the heart of the Ironbridge Gorge. There are a surprising amount of places of interest for such a small place. We didn't spend to long in the village itself; we chose to take an (ill advised) walking route along the river and through the woods on our way to Blists Hill Victorian Town.
