What I Bought In New York

New York Purchases

This is about a year's worth of purchases for me bought in the space of a week (!) - ugh. I usually stick to repurchasing a few favourites and don't particularly enjoy shopping in stores but when given the opportunity to buy products unavailable in the UK, I made the most of it.

New York Purchases

These were my favourite purchases, I think; I was only just saying to Jack how I wanted to read more about American Indian myths and legends when I discovered this book in the American Museum of Natural History. I also picked up a few pieces from Chelsea Market. I am going to be turning the hand earrings into two necklaces, one for the shop - so keep an eye out for that. I had intended to do the same with the bug brooch but it suits the lapel of my new coat so well I just have to keep it all for myself. I'd heard so much about the PF Candle Co and it's famous Teakwood & Tobacco candle, one of their stockists was across the park near where we stayed so I dropped in to pick one up. The scent is sweet and mellow and perfect for autumn/winter.

  1. I heard so much about this candle and really want to try it but just like you I'm in the UK. I need to check and see if I can get it online because tobacco mixed with something is right up my alley!

So jealous of your NYC trip, sounds like you had a great time! You can by PF Candles in the UK, I think they sell them in Shoreditch. If you're feeling the crafty vibe, Plush Folly sell some amazing scents to make your own soy candles.

  3. yay, wet n wild rosebud! i love it and the colour is so, so pretty. lasts forever (on my lips) too. they're a bit drying, but fine with lip balm underneath first.

also i am dying over that bug brooch.

I would love to give that book a go! Sephora just opened in Australia, just need it to come to my closest city and I'll be happy!

  5. Ugh, that PF Candle is seriously one of my all time favourites. The scent is absolutely divine!

  6. Oh be careful with the crest white strips! I had the same and I really cannot recommend them. I had such sensitive teeth after and while using them. I'll never do it again.

  7. I love the diversity of products in your post!) Good selection)

  8. I second taking care with the Crest Strips - they made my teeth ACHE last time I used them. Also, I'm sure you know and/or this isn't relevant to you but they only whiten natural enamel so fillings, crowns, bridges, implants or veneers will stay the original colour. I have a friend who ended up with some ombre teeth for awhile!

Love the look of the Pomme Frites candle. I've noticed a few places in the UK selling them (though sadly for £16 rather than $16) and been curious about the scents. They sound so original!

    Sorcha x Bright Field Notes

  9. I really want to go to America, there is so many things I would want to buy though x

  11. You picked up some lovely items, especially from the Chelsea Flea Market, love finding hidden gems there. The decorative bug brooch is such a fun item.

  12. Yay, it looks like you found a lot of new treasures! There are a few products I'm not familiar with so I will have to check them out. And Louise Erdrich is a wonderful writer from the U.S. who writes Native American fiction. I have enjoyed reading her books and you might like them, too.

  13. I absolutely love the American Indian Myths and Legends book. My dad had a copy when I was growing up, and I remember being completely fascinated by them. My favorites were the stories of Coyote, although the ghost stories are good too.

  14. I have the PF Candle in Sweet Grapefruit and I love it so much! I need to give the teakwood&tobacco a sniff, that sounds amazing!

Oh I so adore Whole Foods´ skincare products as well as unique soy candles. Great picks! Don´t know many of the other products but love your list either way!

P.S. It´s been a while but I dig the new layout - and your sidebar photo is adorable - you´re too cute ;) have a lovely weekend!

  16. I am loving your new look, so chic. That book looks like something I would love to read. Tell us more :) I love everything you bought so fun.

  17. I adore Sephora! I always stock up on my favourites when I'm in France.

  18. I swear by the white strips. They work just as well as a professional whitening at the dentist for a fraction of the cost.

  19. okay so i did go a little (LOT) more crazy at sephora when i was in the states, but i picked up all the same things you did except no nail polish and i didn't acutally buy any of the sugar lip treatments on their own but i got one as a free sample with an online order and one in this huge holiday lip kit and although they're expensive to just buy one full size, they are really nice. and how great is the mini smashbox palette? like, such a great idea and so small and travel friendly, it'd be great if more brands released things like that.

also i'd love to hear more about that candle, i've seen them on the urban outfitters website which is actually really reasonable to shop from in australia because if you spend over $50 shipping is free, but i just don't know how strong the scents are on their candles so it's a bit of a gamble. so if you've burned it and think the scent throw is decent i'd love to hear it cause i might pick up the teakwood & tobacco scent myself.

oh, and we don't have crest in australia but apparently the brand oral-b and crest are the same thing in different markets so i picked up the oral-b whitestrips recently and have been using them for almost a week and they've really made a difference already. i've never used anything to seriously whiten my teeth before beyond whitening toothpaste & mouthwash and i've still got another week of the treatment to go but i'm pretty impressed with them so far.

  20. This flat lay is so adorable! It seems totally excusable to buy a ton of products if they aren't usually available where you live. Those two formula x colors you got are so pretty, do they wear well? I've never tried the brand before. I've never heard of PF Candle Co before but I will def check them out the next time I'm in the city :) And those hand earrings, I missed them at first glance, but they look like a one of a kind piece :)

  21. I've always been curious about the white strips and the pf candle especially the teakwood and tobacco scent.

  22. That book sounds really interesting and a little different. I've always wanted to try the Crest White Strips- would you be able to keep us updated and say if they're worth the money?

Can i just give a word of warning about the Fresh Sugar balms? I bought one and I have sensitive skin, and my lips now break out every few days as now everything irritates them. It takes a week for it to go away but essentially it's little bumps and it's so frustrating as I now have trouble wearing things like lipstick! Might not happen for you at all but just wanted to mention it! x

  24. love these finds! that gold pencil is amazing.

  25. OOoh that book looks really interesting! Same with the candle scent! And the calendula ointment sounds lovely.

  26. Sophie I would be so interested to hear how you get on with the Crest White Strips, I have thought about ordering some for a little while. Your trip looked like so much fun, I hope you both had a wonderful time :)

The two hand earring are fantastic but I love your idea to turn them into necklaces. They're just so unique.
