I tore through Piercing by Ryu Murakami; the prose was so easy to read and the story was compelling. What you think is going to be a gruesome murder turns out to be something altogether quite different.
I've seen the film version of Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin, which is an absolute carbon copy of the book. Nevertheless I enjoyed reading the original; there was something about piecing together all the clues that lead up to such a shockingly dramatic ending.
Audition by Ryu Murakami is incredibly slow, which it only makes up for by being super short. If I'm honest I was bored. This is one occasion where the film surpassed the book.
Love your book posts, I'm always looking for good books to read so these are on my list! I'm reading the memoirs of a geisha just now, better late than never right?

Piercing sounds super interesting! What's the basic plot line?
ReplyDeleteIt's about a man who has the urge to kill his baby with an ice pick.. so he feels the need to actually commit murder because he knows he will never kill his baby. So it's about his plan to find a woman to kill. It's worth reading.
ReplyDeleteI'm super pleased you like them.
ReplyDeleteI've read Memoirs of Geisha, I thought it was good but it's not really the sort of book I like to read.
I love Rosemary's Baby! I've only seen the film but never read the book. I'm going to give this a read! Nice post.
