What To Wear In-Between Seasons

As summer approaches, outfit choices become a burden. When it's too early to commit fully to summer tea dresses and sandals, it's time to wear those transitional wardrobe pieces. These versatile items are often staple items that can be worn all year round, if styled right. They provide a solid foundation to outfits, ensuring you stay warm (or cool) no matter the season.

Finding your style inspiration and knowing how to style outfits is as important as buying the right clothes for your wardrobe. I've shared my favourite transitional wardrobe clothes, perfect for wearing in-between the seasons. The best thing is, they can all be mixed and matched with each other to create different outfits; proving you don't need a wardrobe full of stuff to be stylish, you just need to know how to style them.

Minimal Jewellery

Having a selection of everyday jewellery options to choose from can really change the feel of an outfit. Simply by swapping out a few of the pieces you wear on a daily basis. Spring jewellery doesn't look all that different to summer jewellery, with barely there chains replacing delicate pendants. You can wear whatever jewellery you want, all year round.

I've discovered, tweaking the pieces you wear on a daily basis can dramatically change the way you feel about the rest of your outfit. I like to wear something a little more colourful in summer with a raw crystal necklace layered with a delicate flower necklace using a necklace detangler.

Linen Shirt

This is the ultimate wardrobe essential for many of us. A linen shirt, especially an oversized one, is extremely versatile. It can be dressed up or styled casually, depending on the occasion. Worn alone in summer or under a knitted vest in winter.

There are so many ways to style a linen shirt making one of the best transitional pieces to have in your wardrobe. I've found having an oversized shirt as well as a more fitted option in my wardrobe makes for the best outfit combinations.

Shirt Dress

An all-in-one that feels as effortless to wear as it looks, and a shirt dress ticks all the boxes. It's an instant outfit ideal for warm spring days or cool summer nights. Choose one made using weighty cotton fabric for more structured, well-dressed appearance. You'll get more wear throughout the year that way.

I find the length of this particular shirt dress hits just right, making it the ideal dress for wearing with or without tights during the spring to summer transition. If you want to be comfortable yet well-dressed, this is the perfect outfit.

Barrel Pants

The style and design of these utilitarian trousers make these a great transitional wardrobe piece. Made using lightweight cotton twill with a little bit of stretch; they have a high rise, curved leg, and slightly cropped length. Sturdy and well-made, the structured appearance of these trousers are ideal for all-day wear.

Being 5ft 4 and curvy, I struggle to find trousers that fit my hips and waist. Yet the Everlane barrel pants are a dream. Nipping in at the waist and curving out down the leg.

Knitted Vest

Light knitwear is a great option for days that have a tendency to turn chilly by night. A knitted vest, fitted or loose, is a useful wardrobe staple to have for this exact reason. It's also a good opportunity to get playful with your wardrobe with creative patterns or colours.

I thrifted a few knitted vests, including this Lazy Oaf floral design. But Everlane has a more substantial jacket-vest if that's more your style.
