I wish I had taken more photographs of the streets of New York but it was so hard to capture the busy nature of this city in single photographs - you just have to experience it. New York was amazing; this city is every bit as eclectic as you imagine it to be.
We stayed in the East Village of Manhattan right by Tompkins Square Park;
we ate (too many) bagels from Tompkins Bagels;
visited the Bronx Zoo;
explored the American Museum of Natural History for hours;
drank coffee at Stumptown (amazing coffee, amazing building) and Blue Bottle Coffee (which I loathed for its pretentiousness);
ate the most delicious pizza at Paulie Gee's;
finally saw the enlightening Body Worlds exhibition;
found the hidden burger joint in Le Parker Meridien;
experienced Sleep No More's "Inferno" at the McKittrick Hotel, which was indescribably mind blowing;
ate at Momofuku;
viewed artwork at MoMA including the Henri Matisse exhibition;
narrowly avoided being crushed at the Village Halloween Parade;
grabbed lunch at Amy's Bread;
spent some dollars in Sephora;
visited the Evolution Store;
experienced proper Cuban-Mexican food at Cafe Habana;
explored the city and its streets from The High Line
and drank at some pretty awesome bars.
I would go back in a heartbeat.
I think your honesty about not being able to picture and do it justice is so true. It's a place simply to experience. Your round up of activities and places sounds very fun!!
ReplyDeleteThese photos are making me miss NYC so much! It's a city like nothing else, you're totally right that it's hard to capture it in a picture (although yours are gorgeous). Love the High Line, such a great space!

You've managed to capture the feel of the city so well! If you ever go back again you should take a walk around Williamsburg, you'd love the architecture around there and the neighbourhood is so interesting Xx
ReplyDeleteOhh....I want to go...but only when there lots of snow around and I can skate in Central Park. ps. Don't bother about bringing me home a gift or anything like that!! ;)

Nice pictures! I'm dying to visit New York someday. I've been in the States and for now my favourite city is San Francisco, but I feel New York will come very close, if not take over... :)
ReplyDeleteYay, so glad you had a wonderful time! I can't wait to see what you bought.
ReplyDeleteI would love to go to New York one day! Especially during the holidays!

ReplyDeleteI live in NYC, uptown in Harlem. Check out my blog for less-professional, sometimes-comical, always real pictures of my life in NYC http://runwright.net
ReplyDeleteLooking at these photos makes me want to go to New York! :)
ReplyDeleteI miss New York so! Your pictures bring back a lot of memories.
ReplyDeleteyou've made me even more excited about going. Just 5 weeks to get through.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to capture, you need to see it as a whole rather than in snapshots!
ReplyDeleteThe High Line was amazing, it was such a wonderfully beautiful day that day too.
ReplyDeleteIt really is totally unique, it was such a privilege to visit.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved it! :))
ReplyDeleteI hope so - it's worth visiting! :))
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Kiara.
ReplyDeleteOh, isn't there just? It's just so intense.
ReplyDeleteThank you! There was so much we wanted to do but we ran out of time! We did so much yet there are always things I wish I'd had more time for..
ReplyDeleteI couldn't bare the cold! I'm useless when it's too hot or too cold; I don't think I could bare NYC in winter, I've heard it's dreadful.
ReplyDeleteSame here, I've wanted to visit for so long and I finally go to go! Hopefully you can visit soon too :))
ReplyDeleteI loved San Francisco! I've been to a few places in America and I think SF was one of the best.
ReplyDeleteI'll share that soon, I promise! There will also be a vlog too! :))
ReplyDeleteHalloween was a great time to visit; I've heard London does Christmas better than NYC and Halloween was a riot.
ReplyDeleteIt was SO MUCH FUN, I can't believe it.
ReplyDeleteThere is so much I wanted to do and just didn't have time for! I want to go back and visit more places.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have an absolutely WONDERFUL time!
ReplyDeleteOh, amazing, I will definitely check that out! :))
ReplyDeleteI would recommend it - it's really amazing :))
ReplyDeleteAhh, I miss it and I've only just come back!
ReplyDeleteI felt like that when I found out we were going.. I had to wait four months! You're going to have such an amazing time!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, Sophie! I love that you managed to condense the trip into a single paragraph - that kind of minimalist style is why I adore reading your blog! I love your selection of photos, too - especially that East Asian-inspired street art and the amalgam of stamps. x
ReplyDeleteI had so much fun reading this! I live in NYC, and your words capture the feeling of this city really well - it is an extremely eclectic city in the best way.
ReplyDeleteI used to work across the street from Le Parker Meridien, and I spent far too many lunch breaks (and dollars) at that burger place! I hope you get to come back. x

A week! We're pretty good at cramming a whole bunch of stuff into our holidays :))
ReplyDeleteAhhh, awesome :)) I couldn't eat in the burger joint but it was awesome to see it.. I'm curious, was it there before the hotel? Or is it all a con and really part of the hotel? I think it's a sneaky con to make it more appealing ;))
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Tamsin :))
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photography! I dream of visiting NYC…and this post has fed my desire to explore. I'm especially jealous you got to see the Henri Matisse exhibition!
