At the end of last month we visited the Black Country Living Museum for their Red By Night event. There was a kind of magic to the place - an open-air museum on 26 acres of former industrial land, showing what it was like to live and work in the industrial era. Authentic shops, houses, and workplaces have been reconstructed; there is a working tram, an underground mine; metal working, glass cutting, and sweet making; there is a Limelight Cinema with silent films from the 1920s and a real spit and sawdust inn. I have never visited the museum before, I'm eager to revisit when we have more time to see everything. We managed to catch the last ride of the night at the traditional fairground on the Speedway Ark - a super fast carousel, which had us clinging on to the handle bars for dear life. The perfect end to a pretty awesome day.
I love the Black Country Museum. Full of mystery and smells OLD.
