Twenty-five years ago these gardens were "lost" under a tangle of weeds and overgrowth. A secret garden lost to time; it's since been restored to its former beauty. The 200 acres feature productive gardens growing 300 varieties of fruit, vegetable, salad, and herbs; pleasure grounds with romantic structures, unexpected features, and historic plantings; it's also the home to an outdoor jungle complete with boardwalks and rope bridge.
Just like the Eden Project, photographs and words do not do this place justice. It's absolutely stunning and well worth visiting if you appreciate beautifully sculpted gardens and long walks in woodland. The kitchen and bakery use locally sourced ingredients (many from the gardens itself) in their dishes, and the gift shop is the best I've ever seen.
