Autumn 2022 Style Inspiration

Autumn 2022 Style Inspiration

I want to cling onto summer for as long as possible. As a result, my autumn style inspiration is lighter than last year's; with fewer scarves and heavy coats, and more transitional pieces. The overall theme of my autumn style inspiration leans heavily into gender neutral unisex fashion. I can also see my own version of dopamine dressing coming through too. Oversized knitwear paired with maxi skirts, and colourful socks worn with loafers or sandals also feature heavily in my autumn capsule wardrobe style.

It was a struggle to create this autumn style inspiration moodboard. Not only am I less than enthusiastic about the nosedive into colder, darker, rainy days. I'm not keen on the stereotypical autumn/winter fashion either. Although Pinterest is a useful tool for style inspiration. Finding outfits for an hourglass body type, that are actually wearable and modern, is a real challenge. Often I find myself having to heavily tweak the outfits I want to recreate to better suit my body and style. Another way I look for inspiration is by leaning into the seasonal trends I already have in my wardrobe.

Autumn 2022 Style Inspiration

Looking at autumn 2022 fashion trends, there are a few styles I already wear consistently: black on black outfits, chunky loafers, and oversized shirts. There are others I wouldn't go anywhere near, ever: corsets, schoolgirl outfits, and ballet shoes. I enjoy looking at seasonal trends to see what, if anything, appeals to me. I can then shop my wardrobe to create new outfits I might not have worn otherwise. It's a way to follow trends responsibly, have fun with your wardrobe, and try new styles with very little risk.

Whenever I look at fashion trend forecasts, one thing always stands out to me. It's that trends are interpreted differently and therefore can be worn in a variety of ways. Essentially, the boundaries are pretty blurry. If you have a good sense of style, you can have a lot of fun recreating on-trend outfits without shopping for anything new. That's the thing with fashion. You can follow seasonal trends in a sustainable way, without losing your personal style or compromising on your ethics.
