Plastic Free July

It's the start of #PlasticFreeJuly tomorrow!
Do you accept the challenge to give up single-use plastic?

Every day throughout July I’ll be sharing daily low waste living tips on Instagram Stories to help reduce plastic waste and lessen your impact on the environment. Zero waste living is about intention not perfection; every step we make to change our wasteful habits is a step in the right direction. Do what you can, where you can, with what you have. I'm here to answer any questions you have or advice you need for reducing your waste and plastic use - join me on Instagram!

Things To Keep In Mind About Going Plastic-Free

Don’t buy lots of new things! We can’t shop our way to a low-waste lifestyle so use what you already have and work out what you need before making any purchases. If you do need to buy something, invest in things you will get the most use out of (don't buy produce bags, for instance, if there's no bulk supermarket near you!) Try to buy secondhand if possible and invest in well made, buy-it-for-life items, designed to last. Ask me if you need recommendations!

The way we shop matters. Driving long distances probably isn’t worth it for most things so weigh up the environmental cost of driving between several shops and purchasing something in plastic. Remember: if there's no affordable or realistic plastic-free solution, purchasing in larger quantities (5kg or rice every few months instead of 500g packets every few weeks, for example) is a viable low waste solution.

Reducing our plastic waste is important but in reality has very little impact. The most effective way of reducing your damage to the environment is to stop eating animals. It's been proven time and time again, a plant-based diet is the single biggest way to reduce your impact not just on Earth but also greenhouse gases, global acidification, eutrophication, land use, and water use.
